Therapies

Naturopathic:
My intention is to design an easy to follow, step by step program that is designed specifically for you and your unique health concerns. The protocols have been created from both clinical experience and up to date scientific evidence based research. The consultation involves assessing medical history, symptoms, diet, and state of mind. The initial consultation usually takes an hour and may lead to further investigation.

Health protocols at Revive Your Health include the body, the mind and the person, and during the course of the treatment, we may address one or all of these to allow you to achieve balance and good health.
I believe there are four major methods to help achieve lasting health and wellness:
1. Addressing the cause of the problem, not just the symptoms
2. Food as medicine, to suit your needs, not following diets
3. Educating patients about their health and how to care for themselves
4. Develop strategies to maintain high levels of wellness

Why see a Naturopath?
Anyone who is concerned with their health, for acute or chronic illness, or just to trying to improve general wellbeing can benefit from naturopathy. Because I look at the whole person and then treat holistically, it is possible to achieve success in helping long term underlying issues as well as addressing the presenting symptoms.
The foundation of Naturopathy is the philosophy of the “healing power of nature”. This means that with the help of naturopathic treatment, the body can repair itself and recover from illness, if it is in a healthy and supported environment. Naturopathy is a practice of preventing, assessing and treating conditions of the human mind and body. By integrating conventional health sciences with a range of natural therapies and traditional medicines, naturopathy treats the patient’s mental, emotional and physical states for a lasting effect.
A Naturopath aims to educate, empower and motivate the patient to assume more personal responsibility for his or her health by adopting a healthy attitude, lifestyle and diet. They do not simply treat the manifestation of a disease and its effects but rather search for the cause and treat it, rather than the effect. Prevention of disease is accomplished through naturopathic education which builds a lifestyle that supports health and wellbeing.
• Naturopathic Medicine is safe to use in conjunction with mainstream medical treatment
• Naturopathic Medicine can be used to treat existing conditions; prevent or slow the development of certain conditions and optimise overall health
Naturopathic Medicine is a well established modality in the Australian health care system and part of a strong allied health community.

Who needs to see a Naturopath?
Anyone who is concerned with their health, for acute or chronic illness, or just to trying to improve general wellbeing can benefit from naturopathy. Because we look at the whole person and then treat holistically, we can achieve success in helping long term underlying issues as well as addressing the presenting symptoms.
Naturopathic treatments can be effective for:
• acute or chronic illness
• stress: fatigue, depression, insomnia
• headaches: migraines or recurring headaches
• hormonal issues: irregular cycle, dysmenorrhea, PMS
• fertility: conception, pregnancy, menopause
• digestive issues: IBS, diarrhoea, constipation, weight loss
allergies: hayfever, food intolerances

The Consultation:

Your initial consultation with me at Revive Your Health will include a detailed discussion of your current health issues and medical history. Your assessment will include your diet, nutritional status, mental state, activity levels, physical ability and how your body is actually functioning. The initial consultation usually takes an hour and may lead to further testing as required. Depending on your individual situation, tests may be taken and sent off to a lab for assessment.
After the initial consultation, I will write up an individual treatment plan, which may include an individually prescribed herbal medicine or natural medication and give your ongoing recommendation to set you on the road to optimal health.

Treatment can incorporate:
• herbal medicine: tinctures of herbs with specific treatment purposes
• nutritional supplements: vitamins and minerals which may be lacking through diet or malabsorption
• diet: improving health through better input and improved digestion
• homeopathic formulas: low dosage yet highly effective remedies
• flower essences: support for emotional and mental states
• iridology
• hair, tongue and nail analysis
• remedial massage
I tend to use combinations of the above treatments, as well as lifestyle recommendations to manage and resolve the issues.  As much of the consultation can be personal and at times emotional, confidentiality is assured.

Herbal Medicine:
Herbal medicine has been used to treat illness and support the body’s functions for hundreds of years. Herbal remedies may be dispensed in tablet format, or tailor made for the individual in a liquid format.  Some treatments may achieve success within a few weeks, whilst others may be best suited to daily dosage for several months. Just as every person is different, so too is the treatment and response.

Nutritional Medicine:
My treatment style is to encompass the use of nutrition in the form of diet to reduce inflammation and irritation in the body, as well as the use of nutritional supplements to further reduce problems and introduce the ability to heal and thrive. In complex cases I use specialised diagnostic testing to check for markers which reveal markers and use appropriate supplementation to correct any imbalances.  I encourage my patients to avoid fad diets, but to find the eating style which best suits their individual genetic pattern and lifestyle.
If you suffer from symptoms like fatigue, headaches, bloating or frequent illness, then these are signs that your health are out of balance. You could buy a headache pill or antacid from a pharmacy to make the symptoms temporarily go away, but if you don’t address the cause, the problem will resurface again.

Remedial Massage:
I have worked as a Remedial Massage therapist since 2001 in Queensland, Melbourne, Bendigo and Geelong, and enjoy helping people to achieve calm and relaxation through easing muscle pain and tension. I give therapeutic deep tissue massage using essential oils, and believe that regular massage is an enjoyable and essential step in achieving total wellbeing.
